Despite so many small farms closing, the demand for yoghurt and specialty cheese is insatiable.
Our desire for imported cheese is growing on average by an extra 4,000 tonnes per year.
To save small family dairy farms there is a clear pathway to survive and thrive - operate up the value chain.
Over 40%
of small dairy farms rate the viability
of their farm as “Poor” or “Very Poor”.
Almost 60%
of respondents cited the concentration of
processor and retail market power as
biggest contributors to farm pressure.
